  Adobe
releases its creative suite every 18-24 moths. The latest suite called
Adobe CS5 was released on April 12, 2010. This bunch of applications for
web, print and video design was very promising. Adobe CS5 applications
had a great number of enhanced features and also every application had
some brand new tools and features such as native 64-bit support, Content
Aware Fill in Photoshop CS5, Roto Brush in After Effects CS5 or new
text engine in Flash Professional CS5. Just before the release Adobe CEO
Shantanu Narayen speaking about the prospect of Adobe CS5 said: "We'd
like to say that if the economy is going to be stable the way it is the
year 2010 is going to be a good year, if economy improves it's going to
be a great year".
Announcing Creative Suite 5 Adobe incorporated
looked convinced that the products were so good that they would sell
great. Users also seemed rather excited about new features in their
favorite products. Also many Creative Suite users skipped upgrade to
Adobe CS4 which was generally quite a weak release and it was just high
time to upgrade. So expectations were rather optimistic, but let's look
at the figures shown by Adobe CS5 during last five months since its
release.
Adobe earnings during the second quarter of fiscal 2010
were $943.0 million and in the third quarter – $990.3 million. These
figures look optimistic especially if compared to $697.5 million earned
in the third quarter of fiscal 2009 and also they meet Adobe
expectations of $950 million to $1 billion in the third quarter of 2010.
"Adobe began shipping CS5 on April 30. We expect CS5 will be a
normal (i.e., strong) product cycle, versus the CS4 product cycle which
has been muted by the challenging economic environment. CS5 revenue is
running 15 percent ahead of CS4, despite Japan and Education weakness,"
said Steven Ashley, an analyst at Robert W. Baird.
So it seems that
Adobe CS5 products are meeting expectations of both the seller and
